2008 Cedartown Memorial Day Bike Ride

Description of Ride Options
Note: On-site registration begins at 7:30 a.m.

Century Huff & Puff (100 miles) 8:30 a.m.

Depart from the Cedartown Welcome Center at 8:30 a.m. and bike East on the SCT and bike East to Woodall Road. Turn right and follow the marked route via County and State roads through several communities in Haralson, Central and Western Polk County. Take time to see the archway at the state line and let your feet touch the newly completed Chief Ladiga Trail that extends to Weaver, Alabama.This ride includes winding roads, variable elevations riding up Vinson Mtn., down Everett Mtn. & up Hightower Mtn. You'll coast down the SCT on your way back to the Cedartown Welcome Center. The scenery is pastoral and beautiful. This ride is moderate to difficult and should not be attempted unless you are in excellent condition.

Bike or Blades Ride (47 miles) 8:45 a.m.

Roll out of the Welcome Center at 8:45 a.m. on your bike or roller blades and ride West on the SCT to the GA/AL state line. Enjoy the scenic rolling hills and countryside of western Polk County. After passing through the archway, continue on the Chief Ladiga Trail to the Eubank Welcome Center in Piedmont, Al. You will travel through several communities, view mountain peaks, the Pinhoti Hiking Trail and cross over Terrapin Creek at four different locations. The ride is easy to moderate if you are in good condition and have some long distance riding experience.

Bama & Back (20 miles) 9:00 a.m.

Head out from the Welcome Center and bike or roller blade to the Alabama state line via the Silver Comet Trail. Take a few to enjoy the rest stop and see the trail archway. Let your feet touch the newly completed Chief Ladiga Trail that extends to the city of Weaver, AL. This ride is prefect for the novice rider or someone who just doesn't want to push too hard on Memorial Day. There is a slight incline as you travel West, but that means that it's downhill on your way back to Cedartown!

Rest Stops & SAG

Rest stops, manned by local volunteers, are located every 10-20 miles and will provide you with a variety of tasty snacks, hydration drinks and water. Porta Johns will also be available. SAG vehicles will make rounds on local roads. The portions of the ride along the Silver Comet Trail will have SAG support and rest stops.

The start of each ride is at the Cedartown Welcome Center located on South Main Street in the downtown Cedartown area. Parking is available on the street and there are public parking areas near the Welcome Center (please follow the signs)
